The
School
Orford Primary School is situated in the small
rural/coastal town of Orford, eighty kilometres from Hobart and approximately five hundred metres from Millingtons
Beach. Although the school first opened in 1869, it
was established at its present site in Charles Street in 1920.
The school
caters for students from surrounding areas including Buckland, a small
community twenty kilometres south of Orford. Students graduate from
our school at the end of Grade 6 and can either attend Triabunna
District High School, board in Hobart or travel daily to school in the city by
bus. |
The
Community
Orford's main industries are fishing, forestry, tourism and farming.
There are local shops, a golf club, bowls club, hotel, several holiday units and beaches. The town is situated on the Prosser River, where it joins the coast.
Maria Island, one of Tasmania’s finest National
Parks, can be reached easily by ferry. Our school is a focal point of a community which actively participates
in school activities.

The
Students
Currently there are about 90 students. Class groupings are flexible
and vary from year to year, depending on student numbers and staffing.
This year the class groupings are as follows: Kinder/Prep,
Grade 1/2, Grade 3/4 and Grade 4/5/6. In addition to K-6 classes, the
school has students enrolled in Pre-Kinder classes for 3-4 year olds as well as
